GET YOUR SPRING CLEANING PROJECT STARTED NOW

Springtime is always a big time for cleaning, reorganizing, and moving. If the coronavirus pandemic has you sheltering at home, this Spring has become perhaps the very best time to clean and reorganize.

If you’re ready to start such a big project, we have tons of spring cleaning tips you are free to take.

Where Do I Start?

Like most projects in life, taking the first step is the hardest when you want to start spring cleaning. That’s why you’re consulting us – the experts! We have some spring cleaning tips to help you start strong:

  1. Go room-by-room around your home, taking inventory of every item. Break your list into three categories: needed items, donation-worthy items, and valuable items.
  2. Unload everything in your closets, sheds, garages, etc. or, if space permits, simply look around each one and take inventory. If you’re like most people, these spaces are full of items you didn’t know where to put after a failed attempt at spring cleaning in previous years. Now is the time to give these items a second, and final, look! It’s time to decide whether these items are really worth keeping.
  3. If you need more help deciding which items you really need, you may enjoy consulting the KonMari organization method developed by Marie Kondo. Basically, you need to ask yourself if every item makes you happy. If not, it’s time to give it a new home.

What Should I Trash, Sell, or Donate?

Once you’ve decided what you need to keep, it’s time to get rid of everything else. We bet you can’t make to be free of the clutter!

Are you ready to make real progress on your spring cleaning project? We have more tips for determining where all the extras should go.

Trash

While you were going room-by-room, we’re willing to bet you came across a lot of clutter. We’re talking stuff you will never use again, and stuff nobody else will want to use. All of it can be recycled, or simply trashed.
Anything else needs to go in the garbage. Just do it!

Sell

If you’re planning on selling some of your possessions, now is probably the worst time to try doing it. During this global coronavirus pandemic, you can’t exactly host a garage sale.

Our tip, in this case, is to rent a storage unit with us. It’s the perfect way to these items out of the way and declutter your home until it’s safe to sell them.

Donate

Old and unwanted (but, in usable condition) items like books, clothing, furniture, and linens can all be donated.

But, again, now is not the time. Many donation centers have unfortunately closed to protect communities from the spread of COVID-19.

While you wait for a safe time to donate, go ahead and rent a storage unit. It will free up space in your home and keep everything organized in one place in the meantime.

How Do I Organize the Things I’m Keeping?

Once you’ve cleared the clutter, it’s time to start cleaning the things you’re keeping. If your home hasn’t had a nice deep clean in quite some time, now is the perfect time to do it. That means dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing. Your home will feel fresh and new again!

Feeling overwhelmed by how much cleaning you need to do? We have another tip for you: make a cleaning list.

It may seem tedious, but it’s very effective at keeping you focused and on track. With a list, you can prioritize each task and give yourself a better time estimate for completing your spring cleaning project.

You may even realize you have more space now to install shelving or bins to help you organize what’s left in your home. That’s another fun project!

Seasonal Items

While cleaning your home, you might realize that some seasonal items you want to keep are taking up a lot of space. They could be things like holiday decorations, sports equipment, winter clothes, etc.

You could free up a ton of space in your attic or garage if you rent a storage unit with us! We even have organization tips to keep your storage unit clean and accessible.
